Understanding
Stress

Dr. Michael Olpin, notes in his book, Unwind!: 7 Principles for a Stress-Free Life,

According to recent studies, companies spend about $300 billion annually for health care and missed work days as a result of workplace stress!

Among leading causes of stress in the workplace, monotonous routine and unrelenting workload top the list. Stress causes tension, headache and fatigue, contributing to irritability, anger, perform- ance and challenging employee problems.

Employee breaks are not enough!

What can employers do to break the pattern, reduce the negative impact, and reverse the trend, boosting protability?

Simply, add this meaningful stress-busting activity to enhance your breakroom scenery--encouraging soft-tip dart play with co-workers!

We’re Arachnid 360, the originator and continuing innovator of one of the most exciting and engaging stress reducing activities available today, enjoyable by all, where no special skills or abilities are required.

Almost 40 years ago, we launched this mindfulness-based entertainment sport, and recently realized it is the perfect stress buster--ideally suited for employee breakroom settings, which by their very nature are places for employees to reenergize.

This year we are beginning to expand into India. We encourage you to consider adding this to your breakrooms to surprise and delight your employees, making each break a little bit better and more fun, while also helping them reduce their stress, improving your productivity.

Worldwide, 30 to 40 percent of employees report their
work as “very or extremely stressful.”

It can be viewed as a healthy distraction from the constant demands of work activities.

This is useful for rejuvenating the brain and body, and for taking a break from the ongoing stressors.

Humor and enjoyment should be a strong component of playing darts. Humor, by itself, reduces stress.

The social interaction involved with this Oce activity is benecial for many reasons, including reducing stress, anxiety, high blood pressure, depression, and the risk of getting sick. Social interaction improves relationships, health, well-being, and longevity.

It’s always good for people to engage in physical activity. The ght-or-ight response (stress) gives the message that the body needs to be active (run or ght an imminent danger). Though darts might not rise to the level of intense physical excercise, it still involves general movement, which is always a good thing to help reduce stress.

Sitting for prolonged periods increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and may shorten lifespan. There’s ample evidence showing that the simple act of standing or stretching for a few moments or taking a short walk after periods of physical inactivity (such as sitting at a desk) reverses these health risks.

Healthy competition between workgroups can increase motivation to continue playing over time. This, perhaps more than anything else, may keep people interested in the activity (if the competition remains enjoyable and fun).

There is a component of mindfulness built into this activity as well. Mindful-ness, or the experience of remaining aware of the present moment, is one of the most important skills to help prevent and reduce stress. When you do something that you’re able to maintain a present moment focus, it takes one’s mind of the potential stressful thoughts that lead to chronic stress.

As can be seen in this introduction, providing this sport system to your employees, where they will be able to participate in an interactive, social, stress-reducing activity on a regular, repeat basis means win-win-win all around: your employees win by reducing stress; your customers win through better products and services provided by your employees; you win by obvious gains to your protability!
